Ferminus Brummage
Manager: Professional Affairs (Education)

Ferminus joined the SAPC on 1 April 2020 in the capacity of Manager: Professional Affairs (Education). Ferminus joins a team of managers responsible for the development of Pharmacy Education standards and tools, the accreditation/approval and monitoring of providers of education and training, as well as the courses they provide.
He joins the SAPC from Clicks Pharmacy Vryburg, in North West, where he was a responsible pharmacist and tutor. A role which was responsible for, amongst others, general, financial and human resource management within the pharmacy, as well as the promotion of public health and ensuring adherence to SAPC regulations, standards and guidelines. Before that, he was the owner of Brummage Pharmacy and Zest Pharmacy in Kimberley, Northern Cape.
He graduated from North-West University (then known as the University of Potchefstroom) with a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) degree and has experience in the community and hospital/institution pharmacy sectors.
His motto in life is, “Sow greatness and spread goodness”.
Precious Thembisile Shabangu
Manager: Professional Affairs (Practice)

Precious is a recently-appointed Manager: Professional Affairs in the Practice Unit, her appointment was with effect from 16 March 2020. Her key responsibilities include, amongst others, to provide managerial and administrative support regarding the establishment, development, maintenance and control of universally acceptable standards of practice, continuing professional development, registrations, pharmacy education and training.
Prior to joining the SAPC, Precious was the District Pharmacist at the Johannesburg Health District. In the role, she was responsible for the management of pharmaceutical services in the district, including the management of staff (including, but not limited to, recruitment and training), financial resources, IT equipment, and managing pharmaceutical stock throughout the district.
She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Diploma in Business Administration and Management. Precious says, “You cannot control exactly what happens in life, but you can control how you respond to it all, with God’s guidance.”
Deanne Johnston
Manager: Professional Affairs

Deanne joined the SAPC on the 1st of April 2020 in the capacity of Manager: Professional Affairs (Pre-Registration). She joins us having worked in academia for more than 10 years, lecturing in Pharmaceutics, Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice at the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, University of the Witwatersrand. She was also previously appointed at the SAPC as a moderator of the internship examination and continuing professional development (CPD) entries. Deanne holds Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) and Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degrees.
She will graduate with her doctorate in July this year. She is looking forward to working in the Pre-Registration portfolio in striving towards developing assessment methodologies to meet the needs of the profession. She is inspired by the words of Les Brown – “When your why is big enough, you will find your how”.
Gaopalelwe Kelatwang
Manager: Professional Affairs: Pre-Registration & Examination

Gaopalelwe is the newly appointed Manager: Professional Affairs: Pre-Registration & Examination Unit as of 6 January 2020. Gaopalelwe previously worked at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital on a part-time basis.
Her responsibilities included supervision of pharmacists’ assistants, dispensing of medicines to both in-patients and out-patients, and giving advice on the correct use of such medicines, supervision and controlling of the acquisition, storage, handling and packaging of medicines to ensure safety, quality and efficacy and Management of Schedule 5 & 6 medicines, as per legal requirements, amongst others.
Gaopalelwe holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Education from the University of Bophuthatswana, Bachelor of Science Honours (BSc.Hons) in Medical Microbiology from the Medical University of South Africa (Medunsa), a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) from University of Limpopo (Medunsa Campus).
She is currently studying towards her Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) in Pharmaceutics at Sefako Makgatho University. Gaopalelwe’s motto in life is, “Begin with the end in mind”.
Myrain Mopayi
Internal Audit & Risk Management Practitioner

Myrain is the newly appointed Internal Audit and Risk Management practitioner. He joined Council on the 9th of July 2020. Before joining Council, Mr Mopayi was a Deputy Director: Risk Management with the Department of Correctional Services, Mr Mopayi has more than 12 years experience in Internal Audit and Risk Management in different departments within the public sector.
Mr Mopayi holds a BTech in Internal Auditing and he is a certified Business Continuity Lead Implementer (ISO 22301)
He believes in supporting all around him and doing whatever he can to improve their lives. Seeing others succeed inspires him to give back to his community wherever possible.
Promotions
Lerato Sambo
Manager: Financial Accounting

Lerato first joined the SAPC on 1 August 2017 as a Financial Controller: Debtors.
On 20 February 2020, Lerato was promoted to Manager: Financial Accounting. Her responsibilities include the management of the Financial Accounting Unit, providing assistance in Financial Management including General Accounting, Creditors Management and Financial Reporting.
Lerato holds Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and BCom Honours degrees in Finance. We wish her well in her new position as she vows to support the South African Pharmacy Council in achieving its mission of ensuring the provision of excellent and sustainable pharmaceutical services.
Resignations
Obakeng Mthimunye
Manager: Financial Accounting – until January 2020

Obakeng served the SAPC in the capacity of Manager: Financial Accounting for several years with utmost diligence. He tendered his resignation in January 2020 in order to pursue other career opportunities. We wish him the greatest success in his journey.
Avril Lewis
Senior Manager: Pre-Registration

Avril joined the SAPC in September 2012 in the capacity of Manager: Professional Affairs. Avril later held the positions of Senior Manager: CPD and Registrations and Senior Manager: Pre-Registration.
Avril executed her duties with distinction and decided to explore other opportunities in December 2019. We wish her well in her new endeavours.
