SAPC - Pharmaciae eVol8 No1 Feb 2021
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is evolving and as such, the systems used to record CPD must evolve too. In 2020, the SAPC launched a new CPD system and encourages all interns registered in and before 2019 to complete their CPD entries on the old system as of 31 December 2020 or face losing the entries already submitted.

Discontinuation of the old CPD platform

In line with the July 2019 Council resolution to implement the revised continuing professional development (CPD) platform based on the 2018 Competency Standards for Pharmacists, Council implemented the new CPD platform for interns – with effect from 1 January 2020. However, to assist interns who were already registered in 2019, the old CPD platform was simultaneously kept in operation for a limited time.

Interns and tutors are advised that the old CPD platform will be shut down as of 31 December 2020. All interns not yet competent in the CPD portfolio registered in or prior to 2019, will forfeit all CPD activities submitted on the old CPD system and will be expected to restart the CPD process in 2021 by submitting at least six (6) CPD entries and being found competent in all six (6) of the CPD entries, in line with the 2018 Competency Standards on the new platform. As such, all interns registered in or prior to 2019, and still using the old CPD system are urged to submit all eight (8) CPD entries by 30 November 2020 and to be found competent in six (6) of the eight (8) submitted CPD entries.
