Introduction of Digital Registration Cards

As the world embraces the 4th Industrial Revolution and we move ever further into the digital age, it is with great excitement that we announce the decision to issue all registered pharmacy professionals with digital registration cards from October 2020.

For many years the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) has issued physical registration cards for purposes of identifying registered pharmacy professionals. These cards have been requested as proof of registration of professionals by members of the public, as well as during inspections by inspectors of the SAPC, and have had varying expiry dates depending on the roles of the professional they were issued to.

The decision to move from physical cards to digital cards comes at a time when most South Africans own more than one digital mobile device (cell phone or tablet). The SAPC has been hard at work developing a mobile application for several months and plans on launching this application in October 2020. The launch of this app will allow members of the profession to easily access their secure profile on the SAPC website from their mobile device and by doing so, easily access their digital registration card.

The mobile app provides the same security features as any other mobile app on your mobile device and is password protected. This provides more security than carrying around a physical card which could be lost, stolen or misused.

The SAPC is aware that many physical cards have already expired and will expire between now and the mobile app launch date of October 2020, and we wish to assuage any concerns of your registration being called into question during this time. No physical cards will be issued going forward. To confirm your registration during this period you can simply visit our website at www.sapc.za.org and search your P number to confirm that you are currently active on the register.
